Cody ChesnuTT

November 13, 2012

Cody ChesnuTT’s 2002 release, The Headphone Masterpiece, is a self-recorded lo-fi double album that’s as much classic R&B as it is outsider art.  An overabundance of song stubs and weirdo skits make up the majority of the 36 tracks, almost crowding out an incredible collection of truly inspired soul gems.  Promoted almost exclusively by guerilla techniques, the album became a surprise minor league hit when Cody guest starred on The Roots’ album Phrenology in a remake of ChesnuTT’s song “The Seed”.  Just when Cody seemed ready to make a breakthrough into the major leagues, he vanished.

After ten years of near total silence, Cody ChesnuTT is back with the Kickstarter-funded Landing on a Hundred and he sounds like he’s spent the last decade preparing for this moment.  Recorded with a full 10 piece band in a professional studio, ChesnuTT’s songwriting is fully developed, the production and orchestration provide a rich, full backdrop, and his raw talent is more apparent than ever.
