Hold Fast

August 15, 2012

The wide world of bicycle pedals is commonly divided into two kingdoms: clipless pedals for the “serious” cyclists and platform pedals for children and everyone else.

In reality, there are a lot of serious (and very fast) cyclists who choose not to use clipless pedals, and there are hordes of cyclists who get prematurely strapped into clipless shoes because they want to be taken seriously by their cycling peers.

There are certainly benefits to being attached to your bicycle’s pedals: increased efficiency, decreased chances of falling off the pedals in hazardous terrain; but there are also major drawbacks: high cost of pedal/shoe systems, increased chance of repetitive stress injuries, increased odds of getting stuck to your pedals and falling over in front of a crowd of amused onlookers.

The Hold Fast Foot Retention System falls neatly between these two opposing worlds: a simple strap attached to a common pedal that keeps your feet attached to the pedals in a natural position and allows you to wear normal shoes.  The perfect pedal for serious cyclists who don’t take themselves too seriously.

And, they’re available in oodles of colors:

Plus, Hold Fast has recently expanded their line of products to include high quality, lightweight, American-made backpacks that don’t cost a fortune:
