Killer Mike

June 21, 2012

The days can be long at the bike shop, and good music helps the hours melt away.  The stereo here runs at least 10 hours a day, more than any other appliance in the shop, so we’re usually listening to full albums rather than strings of songs.

As a genre, Rap gets very little airtime in the bike shop, not because of a scarcity of good songs or artists, but due to the fact that there are too few great albums.  Killer Mike’s latest, “R.A.P. Music”, is a surprise hit, and the exception that proves the rule: it’s a great Southern Rap album.  The quality of the album is due in large part to the consistency of the production, all the tracks were produced by Def Jux’s El-P, but the breadth and depth of Killer Mike’s subject matter is what makes this album more rewarding with every listen.
