Bike to Work Week

May 16, 2011

Riding a bike is fun. That’s one of the best things about using it as a mode of transportation: it transforms the otherwise mundane task of moving from point A to point B into a mini adventure; an experience to be embraced rather than simply tolerated.

While I’d much rather ride my bike instead of work, riding my bike to and from work is a good way to integrate a little recreation into my transportation.

This coming week, May 16th through 20th, is National Bike to Work Week, and the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro are both holding events to celebrate our noblest invention.

The Carrboro Bike Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 7am to 10am at Carrboro end of the Libba Cotten bike path (next to Armadillo Grill). Free food (from Neal’s Deli) and beverage (from Open Eye) as well as drawings for prizes and free bike checkovers from local bike shops.

Then on Friday, May 20th, the town of Chapel Hill will host the annual SuperMegaCruise: a mellow paced, family friendly, 8 mile tour of our fair cities. The ride will meet at 5:30pm at the Wallace Parking Deck in downtown Chapel Hill, depart at precisely 6:17ish and return to the parking deck around 7:30pm.

We’ll finish the week with Goldsprints for Ca$h here at BAB on Friday night at 9pm (immediately following the SuperMegaCruise).

Official Info from the town here.
