Life Cycles

December 22, 2010

Most of the mountain biking movies I’ve seen are modeled after the skateboard movies of my youth: scene after scene of impossible looking tricks and jumps, 5 minutes of gnarly crashes somewhere in the middle, and a driving soundtrack.  It’s kind of cool the first time, and occasionally a rider does something really unique (like Ryan Leech’s scene in Kranked 6), but for the most part if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

Last night, Heather and I watched Life Cycles for the first time and it was totally mind-blowing!  It features incredible bike riding and totally sweet jumps set to a driving soundtrack, of course, but the emphasis placed on the natural world and the breath-taking cinematography are unprecedented in a film of this sort.

Watching Life Cycles was the closest I’ve ever come to feeling the exhiliration of riding without actually being on a bike.
