A large portion of the music I have listened to over the course of the last couple of decades falls into one of two categories: insanely fast or brutally slow.  Unfortunately for my co-workers, I’ve been parked on the down tempo end of the spectrum for the last month or so.

My renewed interest in drone/doom metal is due to the now-defunct California band, Asunder.  With a catalog of only about 10 songs distributed among two albums and two splits released over the course of the last decade, a full run through of their discography could easily last half a day.  The tempo hovers consistently around 40bpm, and the lyrical subject matter revolves around the sunny and cheerful themes of futility and entropy.

Asunder is the perfect soundtrack for seeing the beauty in failure and destruction.
