Shifter Fix.

August 9, 2010

This customer-executed repair ingeniously employs a small set of vice grips to anchor the shifter cable and take the place of the broken shift lever!

This reinforces my belief that if you can have only one tool in the last days, it should be vice grips because they can do anything!

so long as “anything” mainly consists of preventing future mechanics from using real tools on your bike, then yes, they can do anything.

In the last days there will be no mechanics, just those who survive (i.e. the ones who have vice grips) and those who don’t survive (i.e. the vice gripless).

In the meantime, you’re right, there is rarely a good use for vice grips on a bicycle.

Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” has it’s teeth in you and will not let you loose. Ever.

“The Road”, my time in Detroit, constant Doom Metal, hardwired schadenfreude, my disdain for all things modern…

Given the state of things, I figure it’s gallow’s humor or no humor at all.
