Sometimes you’ve got to laugh to keep from crying.

I imagine most folks have seen this parody of BP’s reaction to the oil spill, but it’s worth watching again.

I am, as you’d expect, pretty pissed about this ecological catastrophe, but I’ve heard surprisingly little about the much larger ecological catastrophe that is our overuse of automobiles for everyday transportation.  The destruction caused by this oil spill is exceptional only in the method that these highly toxic chemicals are being released into our ecosystem.  We release enormous clouds of carcinogens and climate changing hydrocarbons into the air everyday without hesitation whenever we use our cars.  Refusing to buy gas from BP hardly seems like a fitting response, how about driving less and buying less gas from everyone?
