Too much to do.

May 19, 2010

How can a town so small have too many events on a Thursday night?

At 8 pm, Dirty South Improv is hosting a comedy show to raise funds for The ReCyclery.  The event will feature a comedy show and bike art auction to benefit our local non-profit bicycle repair hub.  After 10 years of service in a variety of locations, The ReCyclery is trying to raise money to pay for a move to a permanent space so that they can continue their mission to empower people to fix (and ride) their bicycles.  The ReCyclery is an invaluable resource and tonight’s show will be a fun and easy way to support their organization.  The show is $12.

Then at 9pm, Silver Mt. Zion is playing at the Cat’s Cradle.  I have been impatiently waiting for this show since first hearing about it in February.  When Silver Mt. Zion’s sister band, Godspeed You Black Emperor, last played Carrboro, the crowd poured out of the Cradle and into the streets for a huge, spontaneous anti-war parade.  They were one of the best bands I’ve ever seen and it was a night that still inspires me.  Though I’ve yet to see a Silver Mt. Zion show, the word is that their shows can be even more intense and powerful.  Chamber music meets folk meets Black Sabbath.  $15 at the door.
