Doom Metal Supergroup?!

Oh, hell yeah!

Shrinebuilder is the collabrative effort of Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Scott Weinrich (St. Vitus, The Obsessed), Al Cisneros (Om, Sleep), and Dale Crover (The Melvins).  When the lineup was first described to me, it sounded like it could easily be another overhyped “too many cooks” scenario.  Perhaps they are the exception that proves the rule, but their eponymous five song album gives me hope for the future of supergroups.

There’s nothing ground-breaking in the music they’re making, it’s the usual collection of adjectives that could describe any of their other bands (big, loud, dark, spacey).  But there is a crackling synergy amongst these artists that yields some truly epic soundscapes.
