This Friday is the annual running of the bikes: Spring Roll.  Hundreds of cyclists fill the streets in a great, serpentine mass of two-wheeled goodness.

Meet begins at 5:30 at the Wallace Parking Deck (corner of Rosemary and Henderson, behind the old court house).  Ride begins at precisely 6:47ish.

Tempo: Slow and low.

Quite possibly the best day of the year to ride your bike: Bike Breakfast Day!  Free biscuits from Neal’s Deli and free coffee from Open Eye tomorrow morning.  Happy Bike Week!

Quick reminder: Mellow group ride to the Public Library for the Chapel Hill Bike Plan public forum will be leaving BAB at 5:30 tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.  Even if you can’t make it to the event right at the beginning, do yourself, and future cyclists, a favor and come when you can.

Ever wish you could ride your bike around town and point out all of the holes in our cycling infrastructure to someone that could actually fix them?

Well, here’s your chance.

In advance of the Bike Plan meeting at the library on Thursday, the Town of Chapel Hill is hosting a ride with the architects of the Chapel Hill Bike Plan.

The ride leaves Chapel Hill Town Hall at 5:30pm.

Every day we live in a world shaped by the values of our forebears.  Blankets of pavement painted with wide lanes, signed for high speeds, and striped into vast fields for parking tell the story all too well: our predecessors loved their cars.  Had our ancestors foreseen decades of highway fatalities, morbid obesity, oil wars, and societal ostracization, perhaps we would live in a different world today.  Regardless, as these consequences have become increasingly clear, our affections have begun to shift, and it’s our turn to shape the physical and cultural landscape that future generations will inherit.  The Chapel Hill Bike Plan will produce a document that our descendants may never read, but the message we paint on our streets in lanes and paths will shape their world nonetheless.

Help decide where, how, and when our small corner of the world will change at the first public forum for the Chapel Hill Bike Plan: Thursday, May 9th from 6 to 9 pm at the Chapel Hill Public Library.

For folks that want to ride to the event in party formation, there will bike a bike pool leaving from BAB at 5:30pm on the day of the event.
